That is good to see but in fairness to Sony the PS4 has their preorders spread over five SKUs which are all in the top 10 so I think they are still out front.

My local GameStop tells me the PS4 is outselling the Xbox One by a margin of 3 to 1.

Luckily this isn't a sprint but a decade long race and I think Microsoft will be just fine.

They do need to learn how to get their message out though as there have been so many cringe worthy moments as of late.

I used to own a machine equipped with an older standard of Windows Office, either 2003 or 2007. I do not know which.
It allowed me to do basic word processing but what I liked about it was the draw mode as it made technical illustrations simple. I find that my new machine has a 'word starter' package on it but that the features I am used to:
1. Functional send to back/bring to front shape lifting.
2. Fixed segment straightness between point vertexes.
3. A large color palette with mixing and transparency options.
4. An external tool bar which I can put across the bottom of the screen.
Are all gone.
Keeping in mind that I am now operating on a laptop, what is the specific version of Word or Office that I need to purchase to have these 'older' features? I do not like the 2010 starter package. At all.

The concept is great but I don't think things will work out well because of the Best Buy employees. When I first heard about this idea I was hoping to hear that Microsoft was staffing these stores inside Best Buy. I have always been disappointed with how Best Buy sales reps present Windows products and it has just become a nightmare with the release of Windows 8.

Robert - yeah I have shocked a few folks with this one :-)
It now all makes sense and I think that still lends itself to discoverability for others and how challenging some of the features are for users to find/discover.
Hopefully, I have not lost a ton of Geek Kred for this! :-)

I have to admit, I'm as shocked as others have been that you didn't already know of this capability. Since the DP I've been explaining to people that the Desktop is still there but that it is "like an app", so that any legacy programs run in a sort of "virtual environment". Why this wouldn't have been obvious to people once they started using it amazes me because you can "snap" the Desktop along side Metro apps. This is what I do during our video netcast. On my notebook I have UStream chat and Facebook chat open in two legacy windows on the Desktop, and I have the Metro version of OneNote up in the snap screen right beside the desktop. That way, my co-host and I can review show notes at the same time we interact with the two chat sessions. Sadly, I don't believe I've seen anything about IE 11 on Metro being able to have multiple "windows", only tabs. So, I'll probably still need to use the Desktop version to do that.

I suppose the new Start Menu button might be understandable if the gripes were simply about getting to or opening the Start Menu. As an occasional non-tablet Windows 8 user, I can understand the slight frustration at trying to locate the hotspot in the bottom left-hand corner of the desktop, where the Start Menu used to be, or having to open the Charm menu. I almost always use the Windows key to move between the desktop and Start Menu. But for those who are complaining about the form and contents of the Start Menu, I too fail to see how this will actually silence the moaners, except - as Bill says - if they see it simply as Microsoft having listened to them. I'm also hoping that all these new functions will be optional (I've read that boot to desktop for example will be an option).

Sometimes it's just about "perception". If users think Windows 8 is OK because you can boot to the desktop and use the start button all the better.
If they think Microsoft "listened" to what users wanted even better. ;)

Good tip! It can get a bit unpleasant to have notifications appear during a movie. Thank God, Microsoft added this feature. And it'll get better in Windows 8.1, now that users will be able to schedule when they want to be notified.

I agree - it has been the one thing everyone tends to point to as a popular service/app. Well here it comes.

Now lets see what is said about the platform and available apps.

As for legit - it certainly appears pretty valid based on the info, etc. Of course, it could be fake as well. Time will tell for sure.
